A permanent solution for missing teeth

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to support a crown or prosthesis in place of a missing tooth. When properly planned and maintained, implants can be a predictable long-term option.

At Waypoint Periodontics, each case is evaluated carefully using clinical examination and 3D imaging to assess bone, anatomy, and long-term prognosis. Treatment recommendations are based on what will provide the most stable and appropriate outcome for you.

More than just a tooth replacement

Dental implants are the closest thing modern dentistry has to a natural tooth. They offer lasting functional, esthetic, and health benefits that other tooth replacement options simply cannot match.

Natural look and feel

Because implants are anchored directly into the jawbone, they provide similar stability and feel to a natural tooth root. There are no removable parts, no adhesives, and nothing that shifts or slips.

Bone protection

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area begins to deteriorate over time due to lack of stimulation. An implant preserves that bone by mimicking the function of a natural tooth root, helping to maintain your facial structure and long-term oral health.

Built to last

With proper maintenance and good oral hygiene, dental implants can last many years. That makes them one of the most cost-effective tooth replacement solutions available over the long term.

Our dental implant treatments

Single tooth implants

A single tooth implant is the ideal solution when one tooth is missing due to injury, decay, or extraction. We surgically place a titanium implant post into the jawbone, which then fuses with the surrounding bone through a natural process called osseointegration. Every step of the process is guided by precise three-dimensional imaging to ensure optimal placement and long-term stability. Our team takes particular pride in the esthetic precision of her implant surgery, and that dedication shows in every result.

Full arch implants

For patients who have lost most or all of their teeth, full arch implant restoration offers a permanent, fixed solution. A series of implants are strategically placed throughout the arch to support a full prosthetic restoration. This fixed option eliminates the need for removable dentures, providing patients with a stable, secure, and natural-looking set of teeth that function just like their own. With advanced surgical planning and precise placement, our team ensures a restoration that enhances both your confidence and comfort.

Overdentures

If you’re looking for a more affordable and removable option, overdentures provide the stability of implants while offering the flexibility of a removable denture. Supported by strategically placed implants, overdentures are more stable than traditional dentures and prevent slipping, allowing for greater comfort and confidence when eating or speaking. While they can be removed for cleaning, overdentures offer an improved experience over conventional removable options.

Implant maintenance

Placing an implant is only part of the equation. Long-term success depends on healthy gums, adequate bone support, and consistent maintenance. At Waypoint Periodontics, our team provides ongoing implant maintenance to monitor the health of your implant, the surrounding bone, and the soft tissue that supports it. Regular check-ins allow her to identify any early signs of concern before they become larger problems, keeping your investment protected for the long term. If you have had implants placed elsewhere and are looking for a specialist to support your ongoing care, we welcome you to our practice.

Implant complications treatment

While dental implants are a highly effective and long-lasting solution, complications can occasionally arise, such as peri-implantitis – an infection around the implant that can threaten its stability. Our team offers specialized care for managing and treating implant complications, including peri-implantitis, to help ensure the longevity of your implants. Through early detection, thorough cleaning, and targeted treatments, we can address these issues promptly, preventing further damage and preserving the health of your implant and surrounding tissues. With a focus on both prevention and intervention, you can trust our team to provide comprehensive care throughout the entire lifespan of your implants.

Frequently asked questions

Find answers to some of the most common questions we hear about dental implants below.

A dental implant is a titanium post that is surgically placed into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. It supports a crown or prosthesis above the gumline. With proper planning, placement, and maintenance, implants can last many years. Long-term success depends on healthy gums, adequate bone support, and good oral hygiene habits.

Many patients who have experienced bone loss are still candidates for dental implants. In some cases, procedures like bone grafting or a sinus lift can help rebuild the necessary bone volume before or during implant placement. Our team will evaluate your anatomy carefully using three-dimensional imaging and give you an honest assessment of your options. Every situation is unique, and she will never recommend a treatment path that is not right for you.

Before your procedure, get a good night’s rest and plan on eating a light meal beforehand, unless you have chosen oral conscious sedation. In that case, avoid eating or drinking for at least two hours before your appointment. Wear comfortable clothing and arrange for a ride home if you are receiving sedation. If you have been prescribed any medications ahead of your visit, take them as directed, and let us know about any supplements or medications you are currently taking so we can advise you accordingly.

After your procedure, some swelling, mild discomfort, and minor bleeding at the surgical site are normal for the first few days. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your face can help. Stick to soft foods, avoid using a straw, and do not rinse or spit forcefully for the first 24 hours. Gentle warm saltwater rinses can begin after that. Most patients feel more like themselves within a few days, but we ask that you take it easy and avoid strenuous activity for the first 48 hours. We will schedule a follow-up visit to make sure everything is healing properly. If anything comes up in the meantime, our on-call line is available outside office hours for urgent post-operative concerns.
